Troubleshooting Static or Fuzzy Lines on the Camera Feed

This article will help you identify the causes of fuzziness, grainy, or coloured lines ghosting over the image of your camera in live view or recordings. The fuzziness or lines can be inconsistent or constant.
- Check if the camera is mounted on a metal surface. Improper grounding will result to video disturbance just like the sample image. Mount the camera on a non-conductive material such as wood or masonry (bricks, concrete or similar).
- Use the supplied camera cables instead of a third-party. See Different BNC colors for DVR and PRO-model cameras.
- Using multiple cables that are joined together to form one long single cable is not recommended.
- Using a power adapter with output rating of 12V on longer camera cables, such as 300ft cables. A power adapter with 12V 2A output rating may not be sufficient to power the camera on that distance. Consult an electrician for a compatible output rating without damaging the cameras.
- Don’t put your cable near live electrical wiring. AC electricity generates radio “noise” which can
interfere with the signal from your cameras. Check whether your video or power cable runs close to any other electrical wire. This usually causes multi-coloured lines to ghost over the camera video.- Try a different wall outlet. Speak to an electrician if changing outlets worked.
- Re-route the video cable if possible, or speak to a local contractor on how to reduce EMF or noise from nearby cell towers.
- Run cables inside a wall cavity or other protected enclosure, and ensure that all wiring and connectors are insulated and protected.
- Check if the camera cable or extension cable was damaged by any of the following:
- Incorrect installation.
- Rodents/pests
- Water seeping in
