How to Update Your Recorder Firmware: A Step-by-Step Guide

Updating the firmware of your CCTV recorder is essential to ensure its optimal performance, enhanced security, and access to the latest features. Firmware updates can fix bugs, improve functionality, and protect your system from vulnerabilities.
In this guide, we will walk you through the process of updating your Recorder's firmware by downloading its firmware to a USB or flash drive and connecting it to your recorder.
Identify Its Model Number
To ensure that this article is suitable for your system, you'll need to obtain the model number of your recorder first. There are different ways of finding the model number, which is all mentioned in this article, but the quickest way is by checking underneath or at the back of the recorder.
Enter the Model Number Below
Once you have the model number, enter the model number into the yellow textbox below. It will highlight the model from the list indicating that it was found and you can proceed with the next step.

What is your current firmware version?
To check what is the recorder's current Software and Agent version:
- Go to your recorder's Menu.
- Select System, then Information.
Is your recorder's firmware the same?
If YES, you can STOP as it already has the latest version available;
otherwise (NO,) you can proceed to the next step
Download the firmware to a USB
Click the link below^ to download the firmware for your recorder.
NOTE: We recommend using a flash drive with a FAT32 file format. A 32GB flash drive or below has FAT32 file format by default; this ensures that it will be detected by the recorder.
Insert the USB into your recorder
If you are using a Wireless recorder such as NVW-MR4K - MaxRanger4K™, follow the diagram:
- Insert the flash drive to the "Mouse / Backup" port
- Connect your mouse to the "Storage" port
Otherwise, you can connect your USB flash drive to any available USB port on your recorder.
Apply the firmware to the recorder
Access the Menu and go to Advanced > Maintain then click on Update.
Select the firmware you saved, then click OK.
Tip: If the recorder is unable to read the copied files but the drive is properly recognized, click the Format option (which will erase everything on your USB) then save the firmware file again.
A confirmation window will appear, click on OK to proceed with the update.
The recorder will now update.
WARNING! Don't turn off the recorder while updating.
