manual recording - cannot enable it

Hi. My DVR (DVR4-4480RN) used to allow manual recording. It is now disabled and I cannot enable it. It's a function I used to use a lot. Latest update installed still no good. Restore to factory settings, still no good. What could possible be wrong? I've read the manual until I'm blue in the face.

    Yea!!! Found the problem!!! I was using a 32GB SD card but when I reinstalled the 160GB laptop hard-drive I could then do manual record.
