What does each app permission do?
The Swann Security app may ask for permission to access certain features on your phone. These permissions are only used for the features that require them.
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Camera | Lets the app use your phone's camera to scan QR codes during device setup. This permission should remain enabled even if you plan to pair your device manually. |
| Microphone | Allows you to speak through your camera during two-way audio so anyone near the camera can hear you. |
| Contacts | Allows Secure+ subscribers to contact Technical Support directly from the app. |
| Storage | Lets you save recordings (manual recordings or downloaded clips) and snapshots to your phone. It also allows the app to access and play locally saved media. |
| Location | Uses your phone's GPS for features that require your location. See the details below. |
Why does the app need Location permission?
Location permission is used for the following features:
- Warranty registration and ownership verification – Automatically fills in your address in your Swann Security account. This is optional.
- Faster Wi-Fi setup – Retrieves your phone's current Wi-Fi network (SSID) so the app can automatically populate it during device setup. If you deny this permission, you'll need to enter your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password manually.
- Personal Alarm GPS location – For SWIFI-MPRS and SWIFI-ACTIVEG2 personal alarms, the app tags the device's last GPS location for the SMS emergency feature.
Important: Location permission is not used to track the location of your Swann security cameras or recorders. These devices do not have built-in GPS.
