Checking the Recording settings
Max BitRate(Kbps)
- Access the settings by clicking the gear icon of your DVR on the Device List
- Under Recording, click on Encode.
- Make sure the Stream Type selected is Clear
-
Now, check if the Max BitRate(Kbps) is set to 5Mbps or above.
Pack Duration
- Go back to Device Settings and this time, click on Option.
-
Check the Pack Duration if it is on 60min.
Explaining why it is happening
The reason why exporting some recording is not complete was due to the limitation on file size in FAT32 and that limitation is up to 2GB file size only.
What this means is since the bitrate was set to 5Mbps (5120 kilobits per second = 640 kilobytes per second), if we multiply it to 60mins (3600 seconds) which is the pack duration, it will end up being 2,304,000 kiloBytes = 2.304GB.
This exporting problem will occur regardless if it is set on continuous or motion recording. As long as it reaches 2GB, it can’t be exported completely.
Resolving the problem
- To resolve this, go to back to the Record Option.
- Change the Pack Duration to 30mins or lower.
- Click on OK to save the settings.
What this will do is it will save the recordings every 30min instead to have a lower file size. If we based it on our computation earlier, it will now be 1.152GB.
