There are a number of reasons why your Wi-Fi camera will stop recording prematurely. This article will try to explain the most common and give some guidance to help resolve the issue.
Some of the common reasons that may impact recording:
- Motion Detection Settings: t's possible that the sensitivity level is set too low, causing the camera to miss some motion events or stop recording too soon.
- Detection Range: If the motion event is occurring outside the camera's detection range, it may not affect the recording time.
- Type of Detection
- Battery Saver Optimization Setting: This setting helps extended the device battery life can also impact the recording time.
- Camera Mount Location: The correct positioning of the camera can greatly affect the recording of your device.
- Other Factors: Unstable internet connection, power supply, and storage issue can cause your camera to not record properly.
Common Troubleshooting Guide
Motion Detection Settings
- Detection Settings. Sensitivity affects the recording time when the subject is in motion (left to right or top to bottom of the camera Field of View (FOV)). If the subject is no longer in the effective range of the PIR sensor, this will trigger the recording to stop. To better understand the available options, see the explanation below.
• Higher sensitivity settings will increase the distance motion events can be detected.
• Use lower settings to reduce detection range and minimize unwanted recordings.
• Experiment with different sensitivity levels to find the setting that works best for your specific needs.• To disable motion detection, select Off.
• Selecting Max will disable any motion detection mask that has been set up for the camera. - Motion Detection Mask
Type of Detection
- Wireless cameras can record from 10 seconds up to 1 minute per recording. If the motion is continuous for more than a minute and continues across the camera (left to right, top to bottom), then it will stop recording at one minute and continue to record in another clip for the duration of the movement.
- If the movement stops after a minute, the camera will stop recording. This means an intruder could still be standing on the same spot with subtle movements long enough to thwart the PIR/motion sensors. There is no fix other than that to utilize a security system camera instead to record continuously.
Camera Mount Location
Mounting any camera with thermal and motion sensors in the wrong location and angle can prevent recordings of certain movement. If the movement is isolated and small, the camera sensors may not be able to identify the changes between frames because the differences are subtle.
Fix: Reposition the camera or add another camera for a different angle of view.
The ideal position of the camera is 7-8 feet high, pointing downwards at an angle to cover the area where people will be walking across the camera’s path.
