Swann security systems are closed circuit television (CCTV) systems where the base of operations is the recorder box (DVR and NVR). Out of the box, it MUST be hardwired to a TV or monitor for the initial setup via the Startup Wizard and NOT by any other means. This is to ensure that access to the recorder is secured by the owner who has initial physical access to the recorder. The initial setup allows the owner to set up the password that will be used to gain access via computer or phone. If you hired a professional installer to set up your system, ensure you are the one to set up the password first to prevent issues with TV, computer, and mobile access in future for your security.
- TV access (via HDMI) gives the admin user access to all settings of the recorder and is the best place to start when you are setting up the unit or troubleshooting hardware/connectivity issues because it gives direct access to every feature and change all settings safely.
- The computer access has more access to the recorder's settings than mobile device. A computer with the minimum requirements is able to support the software that can gain access to some of the menu items, but it is not meant to be a replacement of a TV for thorough troubleshooting. It cannot access the following menu items of a V8 recorder: Startup Wizard, network settings to reconnect or setup WiFi, and TV display settings, Audio settings, and S.M.A.R.T. test for hard drive. It will also increase internet data usage when used primarily.
- The primary purpose of remote access via mobile device is to be able to pull up the live feed or playback the most recent recordings briefly for a shorter period. This is because mobile apps are not meant to mimic the interface of the recorder as mobile devices are not capable of handling such heavy processing functions of the recorder. Although it can allow playback of recordings, it can only play 1 camera at a time whereas TV and computer can play up to 4.
