Should I use Mesh or AP to connect my AllSecure camera(s)?
Answer: Distance and Physical Obstructions are just two factors that greatly affect signal strength on any wireless devices. If the camera is far from the wireless endpoint or if a metal or concrete is in between the two, the signal strength will drop significantly. Since we cannot do much with physical obstruction as they are mostly your walls, ceilings, or floors, we try to check for the distance. Therefore, the short answer is it depends on where the camera is located.
- Is the camera close to the recorder (NVW-650 or NVW-800)? Leave it on AP mode (default).
- Is the camera much closer to your WiFi router or Mesh satellite, then use Mesh mode instead.
As you change to Mesh mode, check the wireless signal strength icon on the Live View screen as well and compare the signal strength between AP mode and Mesh mode. We suggest you aim for at least two bars of signal or greater so that the signal is reliable, then see which mode is better for that camera or location. Also note that simply changing the Wi-Fi channel can improve the signal dramatically if there are other Wi-Fi devices nearby using the same channel.
