Reset HomeSafe View Password (Windows)
This guide explains how to remove the HomeSafe View application password on Windows by resetting the app's local database. This will make HomeSafe View behave like a fresh install (you'll see the setup Wizard the next time you open it).
Important prerequisites / checks before you start
- You must have access to the Windows account where HomeSafe View is installed and permission to modify files in your user profile.
- When you reset the app database you will lose all saved cameras/devices in the HomeSafe View application. Have the following information ready to add devices again:
- Recorder UID (or IP address)
- Recorder username and password (the recorder's credentials — separate from the HomeSafe View app login)
Choose where to start
Delete the HomeSafe View DB (remove the app password)
This is the standard method that removes the HomeSafe View app login and returns the app to first-run state.
Open the Run dialog
- Press Win + R on your keyboard.
- Type:
%appdata%and press Enter.
Why this helps? %appdata% opens the current user's Roaming AppData folder where many programs keep per-user settings.
Navigate to the HomeSafe View folder
- In the Explorer window that opens, go to:
Swann→HomeSafe View.
Locate the database file
- Inside
HomeSafe View, locate the Data Base File namedhomesafe view(this may appear without an extension or as a.dbfile depending on your system).
Why this helps? The file stores the application's login and the list of devices. Deleting it resets the app.
Delete the database file
-
Right-click the
homesafe viewData Base File and choose Delete (or select and press Delete on your keyboard).
Why this helps? Removing this file clears the saved app login and device list.
Open HomeSafe View
- Launch the HomeSafe View application.
- You will be greeted by the initial setup Wizard.
- When you open the app again, it will ask for its credentials again; there is no password required by default.
Why this helps? The Wizard appears because the local database (which contained the login and device list) is gone.
Re-add your recorder(s) - After the Wizard finishes, re-add any recorders or cameras. You will need the recorder’s UID or IP address and its username + password.

Troubleshooting: folder or file not found
If you don't see Swann\HomeSafe View inside %appdata%:
- Make sure you typed
%appdata%(not%localappdata%) in Run.%appdata%opens the Roaming AppData folder. - In File Explorer, enable hidden items: View → check Hidden items (Windows 10/11). AppData folders are hidden by default.
C:\Users\<your-username>\AppData\Local\Swann\HomeSafe VieworC:\ProgramData\Swann\HomeSafe View— some installs vary.
Summary & next steps
You have now fully reset HomeSafe View. When you open the app it will show the first-run Wizard — follow the setup and then Add your recorder to HomeSafe View. If issues persist, try to reinstall the app, or contact Swann Support.
