When shopping for security systems, you’ve probably come across complex model numbers like "DVR16-5580RU" which might seem confusing at first glance. But once you understand the basic structure, these numbers can tell you much about your purchase. This article will guide you through what each part of the model number means, making it easier to choose the right security system for your needs.
DID YOU KNOW? Older units (not listed above) start with DVR, NVR, or NVW.
SWDVK, SWNVK, SRDVK, SRNVK, SRDVR, SRNVR, SODVK, SONVK, SOIFI, CODV8, CONV16
Model numbers that start with these are called 'kit codes' or SKU. It is usually the code shown in the box, which is not what you need.
Check underneath the recorder for its model number. Some start with SW like SWDVR-84575H and SWDVR-164680RU, in which the actual model numbers are DVR8-4575 are DVR16-4680RU as SW should be omitted. As for the letters after the last 4 numbers, older models use the same chipset across their model series (with the same number of channels).
