Why Your Camera Footage Flickers and How to Fix It
ANSWER: Camera Setting doesn't match your light's frequency rating. Choose the correct Mode and Environment based on the camera's location and region.
Flickering can make it difficult to monitor areas clearly and could impact the overall reliability of your video feed. While flicker in camera footage might seem like a technical glitch, it's often caused by something as simple as a frequency mismatch between the lighting and the camera.
But if your camera's recording rate doesn’t align with the frequency of the lights, that invisible flicker can become very noticeable on video.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that the flickering in the GIF is exaggerated to make it 'more visible'. The actual flickering in this situation is less pronounced
How to Fix It
In your Swann Security app, go to Devices and choose the affected camera, then go to Camera Settings.
For Mode, choose:
- Outdoor - for cameras mounted outside
- Indoor - for indoor cameras
As for the Environment, choose based on your region:
- 50Hz - for AU and UK
- 60Hz - for North America (US, CA, and MX)
DID YOU KNOW? In technical terms, this is often referred to as the "AC frequency compatibility" or simply the "frequency rating" of the bulb. This designation is essential because it reflects the electrical environment the bulb is designed for, typically aligning with the regional power grid frequency—either 50Hz or 60Hz depending on the country.
