Error: Device Timezone Out of Sync / Time Zone Mismatch

If you see this error message in the Swann Security app, don’t worry! It just means the date and time on your one of your Swann Security devices are different from the date and time on your phone.
This could happen for two reasons:
- You’re in a different time zone, but the recorder is set correctly for its location.
- The device's time zone is not set correctly despite being in the same area.
TL;DR: The app checks the time server that your service provider uses, then compares it to the time zone set on your Swann Security device.
For stand-alone cameras: Once you have set it correctly, this error would not show again.
For recorders: Even if it shows the correct date and time because DST has adjusted the time zone set on the recorder, the app will still show the Device Timezone Out of Sync / Time Zone Mismatch error because the time zone from your service provider is technically different to what the app sees on your phone.
Below are the steps on how to fix the error.
Adjust Date and Time settings
NOTE: Proceed to the next slide if you only have a stand-alone camera.
If the recorder is in a place that doesn’t use Daylight Saving Time (DST), there’s no issue because the time doesn’t change. However, if the recorder is in a place that does use DST (like Melbourne), this error can happen if DST is turned on in the recorder’s settings. This helps the recorder adjust its time automatically when DST starts and ends.
You’ll need to turn off DST because the app doesn’t recognize it. While you’re already in the Menu, you can set the correct time zone for the recorder’s location. For example, if the recorder is in Melbourne and DST has ended, set the time zone to GMT+10:00 to avoid the error message in the app.
- Access the Menu and go to System > Date and Time.
- Set the correct time zone (e.g. GMT+10:00).
- Disable DST by unchecking the tick box.
- Click Apply to save.

When DST starts again, the error message will reappear. To fix it, simply update the time zone through the app by following the steps on the next page.
Sync Time Zone
You basically need to choose the correct time zone via the Swann Security app.
- For Android: Tap Sync with phone or go to the recorder's settings within the app and change the time zone.
- For iOS: Tap Update and select the correct time zone.
This action will sync all paired Swann Security devices' time zone to what your phone has so there'll be no more mismatch.
