How to Get the MAC Address of a Recorder Using an Android Device
DISCLAIMER: The recommended app is not connected to Swann in any way. You are free to use any device detecting (within the network) app that you prefer.
If you forgot your password but needs to login to your recorder, you most probably need the MAC address of the recorder to enter. We have couple of articles to help you with that HERE but all of those require a computer.
This article will help you get the MAC address of your unit by the use of an Android device and a 3rd party app called Network Analyzer.
Before You Begin:
- Be at the location where the recorder is.
- Ensure your recorder is turned on and connected to a router using Ethernet cable.
- Your Android device must be connected (wirelessly) to the same router.
How to Install
Due to some changes made by Google since Android 10, the Play store version of this app can't show the MAC address of the devices. You need download an older version instead which can get the MAC address:
Download here: https://techet.net/netanalyzer/faq-an/lan-scanner/10-why-arent-mac-addresses-and-vendor-names-visible-any-more.html
Once downloaded, you need to install it. By default, your phone is not allowed to install apps outside Play store for security purposes; hence you need to sideload it - check this article from How-To Geek.
How to Use It
- Tap Menu.
- Tap LAN Scan.
- Tap Scan and wait until it's done.
- Swann recorder's MAC address starts with bc:51:fe. Older models have ec:71:db.
- Once you got your MAC Address, visit the article that is meant for your device HERE to know how to reset your password.
