How to Fix Missing Cloud Recordings in the Swann Security App
Are your stand-alone camera's cloud recordings showing up in the morning but mysteriously disappearing later in the day? This guide explains why this happens, how to work around it, and what you can do to prevent it in the future.
Prerequisites to Check:
- Make sure your camera is set to record at the first place
- Check if a microSD card is installed in your camera (this affects recovery options later).
Choose Your Issue:
- I saw clips earlier, but they’re gone now →
- I’m getting alerts, but can’t find the videos →
- I want to make sure this doesn’t happen again →
Scenarios
1. I Saw Clips Earlier, But They’re Gone Now
What’s happening:
The Swann Security app has a limit on how many recordings it can load in the Playback tab at once. If your camera has recorded a high number of clips (e.g., hundreds), the app may not display them all. This can make it "look" like videos have disappeared—when in reality, they’re just not being shown.
Choose Your Phone Type
Why this helps: When the app can’t load all cloud clips, the local microSD card must have it. To prevent this from happening, follow the instructions in Scenario 3.
No SD card? Unfortunately, if the clip isn’t showing in the cloud view and you don’t have local storage, that clip can’t be recovered.
2. I’m Getting Alerts, But Can’t Find the Videos
What’s happening:
Your camera "is" detecting movements, as proven by alerts, but the recordings may not appear because of how many clips exist.
- Open the app in the morning, before too many clips are generated
- Go to
- Check for the missing video segments
- If all clips for that camera is missing, it means there are too many clips to load in the app
- See Scenario 1
Why this helps: Earlier in the day, fewer events have been logged, so the app can load more clips properly.
3. I Want to Make Sure This Doesn’t Happen Again
Too many motion-triggered recordings overwhelm the app. You can reduce the recording frequency in a few ways such as:
- Adjusting Motion Sensitivity - Lower sensitivity = fewer false triggers (like leaves or shadows).
- Set a Detection Zone - Reduces unnecessary recordings from irrelevant areas.
-
Relocate the Camera (if possible) - Fewer triggers = fewer recordings = better app performance.
- If your camera is pointed at a high-traffic area like a street or sidewalk, consider moving it slightly to avoid constant motion triggers.

If That Didn’t Work...
Still not seeing your clips?
- Try restarting the app
- Make sure the app and firmware are updated
- Check if your internet connection is stable (especially for cloud access)
Summary & Next Steps
- You now know why recordings appear to go missing in the afternoon
- You’ve learned how to access them locally if a microSD card is installed
- You’ve seen how to reduce excessive recordings to prevent future overload
