How to create a DDNS or hostname?

A DDNS or hostname will help you access your DVR using a Static address instead of public IP address which may be changing every once in a while.

To create a DDNS or hostname for your DVR, we need to register an account first.

Account Registration

1. Go to SwannDVR DDNS Portal.
2. Click on Registration.
3. Fill out the information needed:
   1. User name: < your desired DDNS account username; not your DVR's username >
   2. Password: < your desired password for this DDNS account; not your DVR's password >
   3. Password Confirm: < type in the same password you created >
   4. First name
   5. Last name
   6. Security Question: < choose one from the list >
   7. Answer

4. Click on Submit once you are done.

DDNS or Hostname Creation

1. Type in your preferred hostname.
2. Make sure to tick the box beside I'm not a robot.
3. Click now on Request Domain.

 

Refer to your DVR's User Manual on how to add your DDNS account details and hostname to your recorder so that automatic updating of your IP address to the hostname will occur.

TROUBLESHOOTING

• If ports are already open (refer to the General Port Forwarding Guide), you can now start viewing your cameras anywhere using your domain. Please note that some network configurations may only allow your hostname information to be used while outside your network.
• In the event that the hostname doesn't update its WAN IP, either set the recorder to reboot at least once a week or set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or do both
