How to Update Your Recorder Using the Swann Security App
This guide will walk you through updating your Swann Security recorder using the Swann Security app. Keeping your system up-to-date ensures you benefit from the latest security features, performance improvements, and bug fixes.
Things to Prepare
- Ensure your smartphone has the latest version of the Swann Security app installed.
- Make sure your recorder is powered on and connected to internet.
- To ensure internet connection, check if you can stream your cameras.

Updating Firmware
Open Swann Security app, tap on then select your recorder system.
Right away, you will see that there is an update available.
Tap on to proceed updating.
Since the firmware update will some time, please refrain from doing the following:
- Turning off your router or modem.
- Disconnecting the Ethernet cable if the Power Hub or Base Station is it to get internet connection.
- Unplugging and/or removing the backup battery of your MaxRanger4K™ system.

Special Cases
Fixing Internet Connection Issues
- Ensure your router is powered on and working.
- Reconnect the Ethernet cable to ensure secure connection.
For Base Station: If using wireless connection, move your MaxRanger4K™ Base Station closer to the router or temporarily connect an Ethernet cable.
Why this helps? A stronger signal reduces update failures. - Reboot your router first and once the internet connection is back, then reboot your recorder.
Troubleshooting Failed Updates
- Make sure your phone has the latest Swann Security app version.
- Check if the recorder detects its local storage (HDD or microSD). A quick way to test this if to look for recent recordings under Playback.
- Ensure that the recorder is still on.
- Restart both your recorder and the Swann Security app.
Swann Security App Issues
- Close the app completely and relaunch it.
- Check your app store for the latest version of the Swann Security app.
- Restart your smartphone.
- Uninstall and reinstall the Swann Security app.
- Clear the app’s cache (Android only).
