No Storage Detected on Standalone Camera – Quick Fix
If your standalone Swann camera shows a “No storage detected” error in the Swann Security app, it means the camera cannot recognize a microSD card for local recording.
This guide walks you through the most common causes and the fastest fixes—so you can restore recording quickly and confidently.
This guide helps if:
- Your camera is online but not recording
- The app shows “No storage detected”
- Playback is unavailable
NOTE: This guide is only applicable to standalone cameras that use microSD card. Refer to your camera's specs sheet to confirm or look for a microSD card slot around your camera.
Things to Check
- Make sure your camera model supports microSD local storage (model numbers listed on top)
- If possible, prepare a spare microSD card for testing
Scenarios and Fix
There are only two possible scenarios for this issue:
No microSD Card Inserted
This is the most common cause of the “No storage detected” error.
Check if a microSD Card Is Installed - Locate the microSD card slot (usually under a rubber cover or panel) and confirm that a card is fully inserted
Why this helps? Without a microSD card, the camera has no local storage to save recordings.
If There Is No Card Installed:
- Insert a compatible microSD card and make sure that the camera is powered on.
- Check again and if the card is detected, it should say Storage detected
Still not detected? Proceed here
microSD Card Inserted But Still Shows “No Storage Detected”
If a card is already inside the camera, the issue is usually:
- Card not fully seated
- Dirty contacts
- Card formatting issue
- Card beginning to fail
How to Fix It
Check for damage
- Eject the microSD card
- Inspect for dust or damage—if damaged, look for a replacement card
- Re-insert the microSD card
Why this helps? Sometimes the card isn’t fully locked into place, preventing detection.
Reboot the Camera
- In Swann Security app, go to and select your camera
- Select
- Select
- Tap
Why this helps? Rebooting clears temporary system glitches that may prevent the camera from recognizing storage.
Still not detected? Test with a spare microSD card
Test With a Spare microSD Card
If reinserting and rebooting didn’t fix the issue, we now need to determine whether:
- The microSD card is faulty
OR - The camera can no longer detect storage
How to Fix It
- Eject the current microSD card.
- Insert a spare compatible microSD card.
- Reboot the camera
- Check the app for storage detection.
Results
-
If the New Card Works - Your original microSD card is faulty and needs replacement.
microSD cards wear out over time due to constant recording and rewriting of data. - If the New Card Also Fails - The camera is likely no longer detecting microSD cards internally, the camera may require replacement
Other Common Causes (Less Frequent)
While rare, the following may also trigger this error:
- Unsupported microSD card capacity
- Corrupted card formatting
- Physical damage to the card slot
- Using a low-quality or incompatible card
For best performance, use a high-endurance microSD card designed for security cameras.
Summary
The “No storage detected” error in the Swann Security app is usually caused by:
- No microSD card inserted
- Improperly inserted card
- Faulty microSD card
Quick Fix Checklist:
- Confirm a microSD card is installed
- Remove and firmly reinsert the card
- Reboot the camera
- Test with a spare card
If none of these steps resolve the issue, the camera may need replacement.
