Troubleshoot: Moisture or Condensation on the Camera Lens
This article will help you identify whether your camera has water ingress or not.
When a camera has signs of moisture on the lens, it could either be on the exterior side of the lens or inside the camera. In either case, the camera may still work but the video quality on TV and app display will be affected with a blurry image. We recommend that you wipe the front lens of the camera first to check whether it is external condensation/droplets.
There are two common types of CCTV camera issues associated with moisture:
Condensation | Water ingress |
There is a foggy patch on the lens. This can happen if the camera was placed in a cold environment that turns the moisture inside into water. It clears up when the climate temperature is warmer.

This describes water droplets on the lens but cannot be wiped off because it is internal. Swann outdoor cameras have IP ratings to classify the different levels of sealing effectiveness provided by an electrical enclosure against foreign bodies such as objects and water.
|
Warning: An IP rating for any electronic device does not guarantee waterproofing nor prolonged exposure to such environmental elements over a long period of time. Improper mounting or installation against the conditions advised in the hardware manual can void your camera's warranty.
If you wish to report a hardware fault and are seeking repair or replacement, you can get in touch with Technical Support via request form or phone ticket for an assessment. For the assessment, the following images and information must be submitted:
- Image of the camera lens showing water ingress.
- A recording of when there was water if the water has already evaporated.
- Image of where the camera is mounted (at least 10 feet away).
- Model number of your camera (starting with PRO-, NHD-, NVW- or SWIFI)
- Model number of your recorder (if your camera model is PRO, NHD or NVW):
- Name of the store where you purchased the camera:
- Date of purchase:
