Email Setup Guide for Swann Security Recorders
Setting up an email on your Swann Security Recorder is essential for account recovery. If you ever forget your recorder's password, a recovery code can be sent to your configured email—saving you from a full reset. This guide will walk you through the steps to properly set up your email so you’re covered in case you lose access. You can choose either:
- Auto - for a simpler set up; or
- Manual - if you prefer using your own sender email; if there is no Verify button or checkbox, choose Interface B
Quick Set Up using AUTO
Swann Security Recorders can send you an email without entering your email, as long as you choose Auto in 'Setup'.
To do that, follow the steps below:
Choose the interface similar to your system
Interface A
- Access the Menu then go to Network.
- Click Email Configuration at the top.
- Configure the following:
- Email: should be Enable/checked
- Setup: choose 'Auto'
- Sender: (any name)
- Receiver: recipient's email address
- Click 'Verify'. A verification code will be sent to the recipient; then click 'OK'.
Alternatively, you can click 'Skip' then 'Apply' to skip this process, but be aware that you may not receive any email if something goes wrong (e.g. your network has some kind of restrictions). - Enter the verification then click 'Confirm'. A "Verified" text will appear to confirm verification.
- Click 'Apply' to save the settings.
Interface B
- Access the Menu then go to Network.
- Click Email Configuration at the top.
- Configure the following:
- Email: should be Enable/checked
- Setup: choose 'Auto'
- Sender: (any name)
- Receiver: recipient's email address
- Click 'Test Email' and see if it will say 'Test Succeeded'.
- If it failed, consider using the MANUAL setup.
- Click 'Apply' to save the settings.
MANUAL: What Email Can Be Used as the Sender
If you chose Manual, it can virtually use any email address that you prefer as long as you have the correct setting such as its SMTP Port, SMTP Server, and Encryption.

Step-by-step Guide
Once you have all the information needed, choose the interface similar to your system:
Interface A
- Access the Menu then go to Network.
- Click Email Configuration at the top.
- Configure the following:
- Email: should be Enable/checked
- Setup: choose 'Manual'
- Encryption: choose based on your sender email
- SMTP Port: choose based on your sender email
- SMTP Server: choose based on your sender email
- Username: your sender email
- Password: sender email's password
- Sender: (any name)
- Enter a receiver's email, then tick the checkbox for 'Verify Email Address'.
Alternatively, you can click 'Skip' to skip this process and proceed to step 8, but be aware that if any of the settings are incorrect, you may not receive any email. - A verification code will be sent to the recipient. Click 'OK'.
- Enter the verification.
- Click 'Confirm'. A "Verified" text will appear to confirm verification.
Repeat steps 4 to 6 if you want to add more recipients. - Set an interval that you prefer - this helps to avoid getting too many emails.
- Click on 'Apply' once you are done.
Interface B
- Access the Menu then go to Network.
- Click Email Configuration at the top.
- Configure the following:
- Email: should be Enable/checked
- Setup: choose 'Manual'
- Encryption: choose based on your sender email
- SMTP Port: choose based on your sender email
- SMTP Server: choose based on your sender email
- Username: your sender email
- Password: sender email's password
- Sender: (any name)
- Receiver 1: (any email that will receive the alert)
- Receiver 2: (any email that will receive the alert)
- Receiver 3: (any email that will receive the alert)
- Interval: (1, 3, 5, or 10min)
- Click 'Test Email' and see if it will say 'Test Succeeded'.
- If it failed, double check with your Email provider if you have the right Encryption type, SMTP Port, and SMTP Server. Check as well if you have the correct email address and password by logging in using a phone or computer
- Click on 'Apply' once you are done.
