Unboxing Precautions & First-Time Setup Checklist – Swann

Many people set up smart devices without saving key details like receipts, serial numbers, QR codes, or account information. Later, if the email address is lost or the device becomes faulty or stolen, retrieving this information can be stressful, time-consuming, or even impossible. This guide helps you capture everything upfront during unboxing, so support, warranty, and recovery processes are quick and hassle-free.

Note: Units should be setup before mounting or installation to ensure installers do not enter their own credentials.

To ensure smooth setup, warranty coverage, and future recovery options, follow these steps before installation or discarding any packaging or stickers:

1. Proof of Purchase

☐ If you purchased online, check your email inbox or marketplace account for your order and invoice that are digitally stored as PDFs or images.

☐ If you paid in cash or in store, take a clear photo of your paper receipt or invoice showing:

Store name
Store address or ABN
Tax invoice number
Date of purchase
Product model
Price

☐ Save these photos in a secure location (cloud or external drive).

The print on paper receipts fade overtime. Keep digital copies early for warranty requests, unpairing devices for lost emails, etc. For more information, see

2. Hardware Identifiers

☐ Locate stickers on the device and accessories. See
☐ Photograph:

Serial Number (S/No or serial number)
Device ID / P2P ID (How to Find Your Swann Product Information: Model, P2P/UID, MAC, and Firmware)
QR Code (Where to get the QR Code for pairing in Swann Security app)

☐ Ensure all photos are sharp and readable.

Stickers will fade or wear-and-tear over time. Having photos of such ensures you can pair your cameras if you change mobile device or account.

3. Device Info via Interface

☐ Set up the device and connect to the network. (Check the Hardware QSG and Startup Wizard QSG for your recorder model.)
☐ Open the Device Info screen in the Main Menu (TV). (See Where to get the QR code > no. 2)
☐ Take a clear photo of:

Model Number
Firmware Version
Device ID / P2P ID
MAC Address (recovery code for password reset of your recorder)
On-screen QR code

This helps for password recovery of your recorder and for pairing to the app.

4. Account Registration Email

☐ When you register and verify your Swann Security account:

Take a screenshot or copy of the verification email showing sender and receiver email addresses.

This helps if you ever lose access to your email address and need proof of account ownership.

5. Organize & Store

☐ Create a folder in your phone or camera's gallery with a recognizable name, e.g. Swann Cameras.
☐ Include all of the above:

Receipt photo
Hardware sticker photos
Main Menu or App Device Information screenshots
Account registration email screenshot

☐ Backup to your:

Cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox)
External drive
