DVR8-4680XU Password Reset via USB Firmware Reflash
DVR8-4680XU
NOTE¹: If your DVR8-4680XU recorder has a firmware V1.0.8 and older, the only way to reset your forgotten password is by reflashing the recorder using a special firmware via USB drive. Please note that this upgrades your recorder's firmware to V1.0.12 keeping all your data including video recordings intact.
NOTE²: If you have a 4ch recorder (DVR4-4680XU), please follow this guide instead.
You will also need your recorder's MAC address as your Recovery code. Check this article if you need help finding this information.
Quick install steps
- Prepare a flash drive or USB - it needs to be on FAT/FAT32 for it to be read; there is no need for an external HDD as the files are small.
-
Download the recovery firmware file HERE and extract it to the root directory of your flash drive.
- Plugin the flash drive and mouse to any of the available USB ports of the DVR (front or back).
- Power-cycle or reboot the DVR. The recorder will automatically reflash the firmware. Once you see PART8: Upgrade is successful displayed on your screen, unplug your USB drive. Your recorder will automatically reboot again.
- Tip: If your recorder does not initiate the firmware reflash, please check and verify if the extracted files are in the root directory of your drive, try a different USB drive or port on your recorder, and verify if your USB drive is using FAT/FAT32 partition!
- At the login screen, click "Forgot Password" then "OK" to input your recorder's MAC address as your Recovery code. Input the characters in capital letters including colon (:). Click Unlock.
- You will be asked to create a new password using at least six characters.
- Click Finish after typing your new password.
- Login to your recorder using the newly created password.
